KIDS’ PARTIES – HOW TO BE THE STAR OF YOUR OWN SHOW
Can you imagine forking out tens of thousands of dollars on a fairytale extravaganza for your kid’s second birthday party or a superhero party for your little superman’s fourth anniversary of his arrival in the world? The answer is probably ‘no’ – but then you’re probably not in the same stratosphere as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes or Gwen Stefani!.
According to reports, these A-listers spared no expense in giving their Tinsteltown tots birthday party spectaculars that would be worthy of any Hollywood production. Suri Cruise’s second birthday party made headlines – not because of the fabulous butterfly-themed festivities – but rather for costing an alleged $100 000 whilst baby Kingston enjoyed an action-packed party for 100 guests which reportedly cost parents Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale a whopping $15 000! .
And the celebrity kids’ birthday bashes don’t stop there. Themed parties are the rage in Hollywood with two-year old Bluebell, Geri Halliwell’s daughter, celebrating her birthday with an Alice in Wonderland party and Britney’s two boys sharing a truck and car-themed party complete with motorised vehicles customised for designer, Ed Hardy. The Beckham boys (both big and small) are known to enjoy a good party, so for Romeo’s eight birthday, it was laser tag whilst brother Cruz chose a superhero themed party at a Hollywood martial arts centre.
But there’s no need to go over the top or dig deep to have a successful kids’ birthday party. There are many great party ideas that don’t cost the earth but that rock the kids’ worlds. A party shop will have a host of great ideas and themed accessories, but if you’re stuck for ideas, trawl the internet for some great suggestions, like DIY costume making, cup cake decoration, candle making and old-fashioned party games.
A party piñata is another fantastic party activity which is a dead-cert to get pulses racing and the decibels rising!. Pinatas are also a hit (pardon the pun !) with celeb-kids, with Suri Cruise reportedly demanding one for her next birthday party. Well ok, maybe the Cruise piñata treats will be a little more upmarket than regular candies and plastic toys, but what the hell. The fun is bashing the outside of the piñata, not worrying about what’s in it.
Kids’ birthday parties don’t have to be mega-buck gala events to be successful. Yes, Tinseltown does do entertainment on a big scale – and mere mortals can look on enviably at the paparazzi pics of Pax or Suri or Shiloh or Jayden at their themed parties, but there’s absolutely no reason why our own birthday party celebrations can’t be big on style and small on budget. All it takes is some imagination, a dash of creativity or perhaps a visit to the party shop for ideas and a little effort and you can have a birthday celebration worthy of an Oscar.
