How To Eat Right During Christmas

We are in the season when sugary, high-calorie treats will be among the highest hurdles to maintaining healthy eating habits and proper weight management through New Year's Day.  Candy and desserts are an issue that derails many of our best intentions about eating right.

Holidays are difficult time for many people looking to watch what they eat because candy and other high-calorie treats are everywhere.  The temptation can be very strong.  No matter where a person goes they are looking at elaborate displays that make the seems appear irresistible and neverending.

Reports have shown that Americans consume way too much sugar, about 22 teaspoons a day on average and that can translate into significantly higher risks of cardiovascular disease, Type II diabetes, obesity and other chronic illnesses and the chief culprits of added sugar are the centerpieces of the typical Holiday celebration that is soft drinks, candy, cakes, cookies and the sugar contained in alcoholic beverages which all lead to a person searching for a plan that tells them six pack ab exercises.

It is okay to indulge your sweet tooth a little during Holiday.  A person should do so in moderation.  One piece of bite-size candy a day is moderation.  You can satisfy your cravings without blowing the diet you are trying to follow.

There are number of things that you can do avoid eating too many sweets and high-calorie foods through the holiday season and by following just a few simple hints a person will not find themselves wanting to know lose weight fast because all the candy has created a bulge around their midsection that they do not want.

1. Wait until the last minute to buy your Holiday treats to reduce your opportunities to gorge on it.

2. Purchase foods that are not something that you crave.  When you are presented with an option that is not something you enjoy, you will not want to eat it.

3. Make sure that your kids are not allowed to eat more than they should by limiting the amount.  A piece of candy a day is plenty.  Portion the candy out for the kids and get rid of anything that is extra.

4. Do not go to a party when you are hungry.  Eating a nutritious, healthy snack prior to the event will help you to curb your appetite and prevent over indulgence.

5.  Make sure to understand what you are eating before you eat it.  When a person is going to a potluck dinner they can make something that is healthier for all of the people at the party to enjoy. You will look thoughtful to the host for bringing something to their party and feel at ease that you at least have a veggie tray there to snack on and will know that because you avoided all of the high fat, high calorie foods that others have brought you will not find yourself looking at books that promise to teach you how to lose weight fast after the holiday season is over.

6. Skip the cocktail hour of the parties.  Have a glass of water or a galls o juice instead of a drink.  Most people will not be able to tell the difference and you can remember the event you went to.

The home is not the only place a person faces temptations, office parties can be troublesome.

7. Put the treats away from your work area.  Ask co-workers to place candy bowls in a desk drawer, a break room or in a cabinet.

8. Do not save the candy that is put away.  Donating your excess can benefit others by giving them a treat they did not have while keeping it from going into your body.

9. Bring healthy treats to work.

Taking a couple of steps before the Christmas season could me one less resolution after.
