My Opinion: The Best Way to Generate Higher Cake and Candy Sales   by Tambi Zara

Many independent bakeries and candy shops strain to create merchandising that works. You may have tried one line of attack, then another, but without consistent results. Envision that you could draw customers who were fanatical about your baked goods, and then told their friends, family, and co-workers about it.

What would it be like if your store window displays stopped people on the street and drew them indoors? What if your store merchandising had a impression of excitement and energy that kept shoppers coming back?

1. Train all employees in basic cake decorating techniques. What if a big shot comes in as the store is about to close down and the baker has already left for the day? 5. Word of mouth advertising is so critical for small businesses. Encourage your regular customers to "tell their friends". Give regular customers coupons to give out to their friends. Maybe give your "regulars" a discount, every time one of those coupons come back.
